Day 16: A whale stung me when I was younger

Nothing says "Happy International Museum Day!" like a perpetual drizzle.

This morning I woke up late and unfortunately missed breakfast. I wasn't feeling well (I've had the sniffles the past few days), but after sleeping in and a short shower, Pat, Robbie, Erica and I went out to explore the city. We originally headed to the shopping district, and it wasn't until we were emerging from the subway that I remembered that everything in Germany and Austria is closed on Sundays. Everything. Due to the rain we decided to walk to the next metro stop and jump on the train to visit other parts of town. This led us to the Museum Quatier on the city's south side.

We easily found the massive square surrounded by large old buildings, and took refuage from the rain clouds in the Vienna Museum of Natural History. They had a special program running on Darwin's theory of evolution, and as an added bonus, every ticket price was lowered to 2 Euros because it was international museum day.
While the experience started out slow, it turned out to be a pretty good time. The first rooms had every single rock ever found on earth, ever. This was less exciting than the dinosaurs and animal replicas we found later in the journey. Overall it was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon and a good excuse to read a lot of German.

We still haven't found the aqua zoo

Robbie was nearly eaten by a triceratops

Erica was attacked by a Lion (don't worry, she's fine)

Look mom, they used legos to explain DNA replication

After the museum we headed across the square to find food. The only place open was a pizzeria and the four of us split two whole pizzas in order to tame our hunger. I began feeling less-than-well again, but following food I began to feel better. We decided to head to the other side of town to visit the planetarium on a whim.
At the planetarium, Robbie has the whole world in his hands

When we arrived at the planetarium we realized it was nothing like we expected and more expensive than we were hoping for. As such, we turned around and headed back to the hotel. Along the way we purchased authentic Austrian desserts to brighten our spirits. We got back to the hotel and I decided to nap my sickness away for a few hours.
I woke up several hours later feeling much better, and after returning some emails, we met up with our friends who had just returned from Prauge and Amsterdam to get dinner. Again, since everything was closed we ended up at an African specialty place, where we some interesting dishes. Mine was not at all what I expected, but the live music preformed by Rachel and Brian more than made up for it. I was lucky enough to catch a video of them preforming before they were asked to stop.

After dinner I returned home to relax, but having left my window open, I was lured to join everyone as they journeyed to a local bar. The group of us were caught up on what the other group's weekend experiences were and the beer we tried wasn't half bad. A few of us got chocolate crapes, which were worth the wait, and because the bar was just a few steps from our hotel, it was a nice night, despite the rain.
